The Ionian archipelago, situated between Lefkada and Etoloakarnania, comprises numerous small and larger islands, with Meganisi and Onassis’ Scorpios being the most renowned. However, the allure of this journey begins with two lesser-known islands, Kalamos and Kastos, located opposite Mytikas.

Kalamos is predominantly a mountainous, verdant haven, home to approximately 600 permanent residents. The island features four settlements: Kalamos, Episkopi, Kastro, and Kefali. Notably, there are no vehicles on the island, allowing for travel solely by foot or bicycle. The distances are manageable and pleasant. Visitors to Kalamos can enjoy pebble beaches with deep turquoise waters and charming taverns offering exquisite cuisine. The tranquility found here creates an atmosphere where time seems to stand still.

Kastos, the smallest inhabited island in the Ionian group, has around 50 permanent residents and consists of a single settlement, yet boasts numerous stunning beaches with turquoise waters. In contrast to the mountainous terrain of Kalamos, Kastos is characterized by gentle hills and olive groves. Here, one can also relish walking or cycling in a vehicle-free environment.
